Zhonglong Zhang, PHD, PH, PESenior Scientist

Dr. Zhonglong Zhang is a Senior Scientist with over 27 years of experience in developing and applying watershed, water quality, and ecological models. Since 2002 he has conducted modeling research and development within the Water Quality and Contaminant Modeling Branch of the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). He has been the lead developer and primary author of plug-in water quality modules (nutrients, sediment diagenesis, solids, contaminants, and mercury species). These modules have been developed for hydrologic and hydraulic models and integrated into HEC-RAS, HEC-ResSim, HEC-HMS, AdH, and SRH-2D at various levels.

Dr. Zhang has been a co-developer of the riparian vegetation simulation module for HEC-RAS and SRH-1D and of the latest CE-QUAL-W2 model upgrade and enhancement. In addition, he has applied these models in support of a variety of military installations, ecosystem restoration, environmental impact statements, and TMDL studies. He has applied the SWAT model to the Mississippi River basin, the HEC-RAS water quality model to the Missouri River, Minnesota River, Calleguas Creek, and Patuxent River; and the HEC-RAS and CE-QUAL-W2 models for the Columbia River System Operations.

Dr. Zhang obtained a PhD in Biosystems Engineering at Clemson University. He has provided expert review by the USACE Districts and taught graduate and undergraduate courses as an adjunct faculty member. He has also authored and co-authored over 60 technical publications, including journal articles and software user documentation.

Dr. Zhang works at one of LimnoTech’s other staff locations in Davis, California.
